Travertine Patio: Scottsdale

This recently completed travertine patio offers a lovely outdoor living space. These Scottsdale landscaping clients asked for something really unique – an outdoor dry bar. Where’s the built-in grill? On a different patio, on the other side of the house. This is more like the outdoor parlor, a place for quiet conversation or solitude away from the mainstream hubbub of the household. It is small and intimate with deep seating for 4, but capable of accommodating 8 for a powwow if you count the bar stools.

The homeowner has year-around needs covered by adding a patio umbrella to break the blazing sun and outdoor heaters for chilly nights. They also had us install a deep brown aluminum pergola to cast some shade on a picture window. An addition that really changed the house’s lines, giving it character. As did replacing a sea of stone mulch with this lovely travertine patio. Scottsdale landscaping gets more exciting every year as the lines between inside and outside continue to blur, creating almost seamless flow between the patio and indoors.

The patio dry bar is an excellent example of erasing barriers between inner and outdoor living spaces. It’s perfect for serving drinks and snacks, a wonderful spot for morning coffee with plenty of room for spreading out your newspaper. The bar top surface has the same travertine pavers as the patio, creating seamless color and pattern flow. Covering the base with dark stone facing makes the new pergola blend right in, and sets the stage for rich brown outdoor furniture and oiled bronze accents.

Of course, no outdoor living space is complete without some plants for colorful flowers and greenery. Those important elements are not overlooked here as you can see in the image blow taken from the other side of the dry bar. A totally different perspective with a peek at the main patio area across the yard.

Pale paving on this Scottsdale travertine patio makes the dark split-face veneer on the L-shaped dry bar look fantastic. The bar counter is the same travertine as we used for patio pavers.
